The City Without Jews
In the Republic of Utopia, the Jews are made scapegoats for the nation's economic and social ills, and the government decides to expel them as a result of the nation's bad economic crisis. Leo Strakosch is one of those who has been forced to flee. He has proposed to the daughter of Counsellor Linder. He infiltrates the Republic in a covert manner in order to demonstrate to society the folly of its anti-Semitism. Bettauer's novel is significantly different from the film adaptation. "Utopia" was given to "Vienna." It even had a happy ending.
