Little Miss Marker
Big Steve Halloway, gambler and owner of New York's Horseshoe Cabaret, needs money. The bookies, especially Sorrowful Jones, agree to give him $1,000 apiece if Dream Prince loses. Sorrowful meets a gambler who has lost $500 and wants to put a bet but only has $20. Instead, he uses his daughter, Marthy Jane (Shirley Temple), as a "marker" or security. Suicide after losing his bet, leaving "little Miss Marker" in the care of Sorrowful Jones. While Steve hides in Chicago to avoid being investigated for his shady bets, Sorrowful looks after Bangles, and the "money digger" assists the "tight-wod" with his problems. Big Steve travels to New York to confront Bangles about his involvement with Sorrowful.
