Larceny
John Payne is a low-down rat who is bad at his job and attempts to take advantage of postwar nationalism and bereavement. In order to fund a fictitious memorial, he tricks a war widow (Joan Caulfied) into handing up her savings. Payne experiences guilt when he develops feelings for the widow, but he is able to deal with them without the help of his con man boss (Dan Duryea), who frequently backs up his claims with force and lethal force.
